Dover, DE — Dover Downs’ first draw takes place Tuesday (Oct. 30) for races on the 2018-2019 season’s opening day, Monday (Nov. 5). The Dover Downs Race Office will accept entries from 9-10 a.m.
Daily condition sheets are available in the Race Office, as well as on the internet at www.doverdowns.com or on the USTA website, and will again feature a revised method of conditioning Standardbred races that is tailored to “winners” as opposed to “non-winners.”
For those seeking to qualify, horses must be dropped in on Tuesday for the first set of qualifying races being held Wednesday (Oct. 31).
Daily feature races during the 2018-2019 meet are as follows: The top pace, the $30,000 Preferred and $25,000 Open, head the premier Thursday cards. The Fillies and Mares tangle on Wednesdays in their $25,000 Open Pace, while the top trotters go on Tuesdays for $25,000. The condition sheet will again feature a steady menu of claiming races with the top claiming race going on Thursday as a $25,000-$35,000 handicap with a purse of $18,000. Other claiming races will range from $7,500 to $17,500 for both gaits and sexes.
Monday (Nov. 5) is the date to enter horses nominated to the four rich Matron 2-year-old stakes to be raced on Thursday (Nov. 8). The Matron 3-year-old division entry day is Monday (Nov. 12) to be raced on Thursday (Nov. 15).
To supplement to a Matron event, a $20,000 fee is required for a 2-year-old and a $25,000 supplemental fee for 3-year-olds. Supplements are due and payable at time of declaration.
