• Standardbred Horse Sale’s “Stable Stars” contest

    In conjunction with its Annual Yearling Sale in Harrisburg, Standardbred Horse Sales Company is pleased to announce the 2018 edition of its popular “Stable Stars” contest. Contestants will predict the knock-down sales prices of 16 Harrisburg yearlings to be sold on Monday (Nov. 5).
  • Gregg Keidel wins Billings Trot at Northfield on Sunday

    On Sunday evening (Oct. 21), ten trotters went to post in a mid-region Billings trot at Northfield Park and after studying the races betting patterns only three horses had a legitimate shot at victory and two were sent away by the betting public at odds of less than 2-1 with the third at 9-2 and when the judges posted the official sign Nashville Holiday and driver Gregg “Fast Greggy” Keidel (9-5) walked away with all the marbles.
  • Freehold hosts NJSDF finals

    On Friday (Oct. 19) and Saturday (Oct. 20) three $50,000 New Jersey Standardbred Development Fund finals (NJSDF) were held at Freehold Raceway.
  • PHHA to begin accepting clubhouse reservations for owners with horses in Breeders Crown finals

    Owners with entries in the Breeders Crown finals at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono on Saturday (Oct. 27) may confirm their reservations in Pacers Clubhouse beginning Monday (Oct. 22) at 9 a.m. by calling the PHHA offices at 570.831.2129. For each horse, owners may reserve one table of four. Tables will be assigned by lottery and requests for specific tables cannot be accommodated. Requests for additional tables may be honored on a first-come, first-served basis but only if extra tables become available due to cancellations. The clubhouse is open strictly to owners and their invited guests; it is not available to other horsemen or the general public. Check-in will begin at 4 p.m. Post time is 5:30 p.m.
  • Breeders Crown team handicapping contest announced

    Twelve of harness racing’s top handicappers will be playing for charity on Saturday night (Oct. 27) in a unique contest on the 12 Breeders Crown championships at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono. The Breeders Crown Handicapping Contest is sponsored by the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown with total prize money of $1,750 to be awarded to three designated charities.
  • Massachusetts stakes resume Monday at Plainridge

    After a one week respite the Massachusetts Sire Stakes (MASS) return to action at Plainridge Park. Four freshman races totaling $163,434 go to post on Monday afternoon (Oct. 22) while five events for second-year starters totaling $163,000 will be contested on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 23).
  • USTA District 12 meeting held at Freehold; 26 rule changes debated

    Led by district chairman John Brennan, members of the United States Trotting Association’s District 12 met on the morning of Friday (Oct. 19) at Freehold Raceway to discuss USTA activities and goals and to consider 26 rule change proposals that are to be considered by the USTA’s full board of directors in mid-March. In addition to Mr. Brennan, members in attendance were joined by fellow district directors Jeff Gregory, Jacquie Ingrassia, Peter Koch and Chris McErlean.
  • Steve Williams, 60, dies

    Steven F. Williams, 60, died suddenly Oct. 21, 2018, while attending the Breeders Crown eliminations at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.
